With the implementation of MDMS, can foreign tourists use Nepali SIM or not?

With the implementation of MDMS, can foreign tourists use Nepali SIM or not?

Nepal Telecommunication Authority has launched the Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) for the prevention and control of illegal mobiles.

Along with this, there will be no Nepali SIM support on phones that are not registered in MDMS. With the implementation of this system, there are many questions related to it.

What should be done to register phones brought from abroad in the MDMS system? Or what happens if you don't register?

In the same way, tourists coming to Nepal are also being asked about various issues such as whether they should register in MDMS or not.

If any phone is brought from outside Nepal and needs to use a Nepali SIM, then the phone must be registered in the MDMS system.

The user has to register the phone in the MDMS system within 15 days of bringing the phone to Nepal. If the phone is not registered within that period, then the phone does not have Nepali SIM support.

Similarly, in the case of tourists coming to Nepal, if they need to use a Nepali SIM, they have to register. Nepali SIM can be used for 15 days in the said phone even if it is not registered.

If the SIM needs to be used for more than 15 days, then the phone must be registered in the MDMS system. According to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, if no phone is imported into Nepal and a Nepali SIM is not used, there is no mention of the MDMM system.

After using a Nepali SIM in the said phone, the details of that phone reach the Nepal Telecommunication Authority. Under this, if the phone is not registered in the MDMS system even after 15 days of using the SIM, the Telecommunication Authority will place the phone on the "Red List".

After that, there is no Nepali SIM support in the phones placed in the 'Red List'.

What we understand from this is that if someone has brought a gift from abroad or received a phone from someone, then the phone must be registered in the MDMS system.

Currently, there is no charge for registering a new phone in the MDMS system. However, the Telecommunication Authority has said that this facility will be limited only for a few months.
