Should you stop eating if you have jaundice?

Should you stop eating if you have jaundice?

Jaundice is suspected if the face, eyes, hands are yellow. But there is a tendency to eat yellow food without proving whether it is jaundice or not. Not only that, why do many people get jaundice? Where is it? Jaundice, which is normal, becomes complicated without knowing what causes it.

If the amount of bilirubin in the body is more than 2.5, the yellowness of various parts of the body from the eyes is jaundice. Jaundice is not a disease but a symptom of different diseases in different parts of the body.

When the hemoglobin in the blood is obstructed for some reason, it reaches the liver and becomes bilirubin. Bilirubin is removed from the body after it is filtered by the liver, but if it does not enter the liver from the blood or is not filtered by the liver, its amount in the body increases. which causes jaundice. Jaundice is seen in most people due to hepatitis. Among hepatitis A, B, C, D and E, hepatitis A and E are spread by contaminated food and contaminated water, while B, C and D are spread by blood infection. Liver damage can also cause jaundice in alcoholics.

Similarly, jaundice can also be seen in newborns. Jaundice in infants causes yellow eyes but does not affect much. It gradually disappears by itself. Liver cancer and liver cirrhosis cause jaundice. Jaundice is seen if the amount of bilirubin increases in the gall bladder or gall bladder and also in the stomach.

Symptoms

There are symptoms according to the disease. If you have hepatitis A and E, you will experience pain in your stomach and fever. Jaundice patients with cancer have symptoms such as weight loss and nausea. Apart from that, the symptoms of jaundice include loss of appetite, body weakness, abdominal pain, yellow urine, and yellowing of the whites of the eyes.

Liver function and blood tests are done initially to find out the cause. If that doesn't work, ultrasound and MRI are also done. If hepatitis is suspected, it can also be detected by testing. It should be treated only after finding out the cause. Stopping food, taking medicine without checking can worsen jaundice.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment for jaundice. However, home treatment should not be done without testing. Jaundice will be cured automatically after finding out the cause from the doctor and treating it. 98% of those with hepatitis A and E will recover by themselves within a month if they eat nutritious food and rest. But during that period, if you don't eat anything because you want to eat, the complexity increases. In case of hepatitis B and C, it can be cured only by taking medicine according to the doctor's instructions along with hospital treatment. In case of hepatitis B, it will be cured for two years and in case of hepatitis C, it will be cured within two months. Jaundice is cured only after treatment of stones.

There is no need to stop eating

Most people stop eating yellow foods after seeing yellow in their eyes, which is wrong. There is no scientific fact that yellow colored food should not be eaten in jaundice. The more food is left out, the more the body weakens and the health condition worsens. In food, you can eat lentils, rice, vegetables, sour fruits, butter, ghee, salt, oil, turmeric and spices in proper quantity.

Jaundice occurs in those with hepatitis B and C, and liver cirrhosis is a complication if left untreated. If a woman has hepatitis E transmitted by contaminated water during pregnancy, there may be health risks. Which can be cured under strict medical supervision.
